Transform Your Yard Into a Uniquely Beautiful Habitat!
By Elizabeth Elliot
It's SPRING! Temperatures are rising, flowers are blooming, leaves are unfurling, and if you're anything like me, you are anxious to shake off the winter blues and Get Outside. A great way to enjoy the outdoors is gardening! Not only does gardening contribute to wellness, but it can be an extension of your personality! You don't have to have a degree in horticulture to create an outstanding outdoor space. Check out some of Himmel's favorite tips for transforming your yard into a uniquely beautiful habitat!: Container Gardening Use containers of all different shapes and sizes filled with colorful blooms and textures for an eclectic look. There's no formula - just go with what you love! Make sure the plants you select are all similar in their sun and watering needs. For a formal aesthetic, choose planters that are the same color and shape and fill them with dwarf boxwood and trailing petunias in shades of white and purple. Instant English garden! Pollinator Plants Do you want to build a better, healthier, and more beautiful world? You can contribute to the health of the entire planet by planting some pollinator-friendly flowers in your containers, small raised beds, or large gardens. Our favorite pollinator plants are herbs like pineapple sage, dill, fennel, and lemon balm, and perennials like bee balm, echinacea, and butterfly weed. Spring Cleanup Nothing transforms garden beds like a sharp edge and fresh mulch. Clean out weeds and winter debris, prune shrubs and cut back perennials as needed, use a sharp shovel with a flat edge to cut the beds in, and finish with mulch or river rock. Add some flowering annuals for a pop of color!
