Note from Nicole ~ The 24 hr/Day Job
By Nicole Donnelly
You know what motherhood is? It's a tough, messy, 24-hour-a-day job. There is no pay. No days off. It means little alone time, knocks on the bathroom door when you just need 30 seconds to pee, and "I don't like that"s every night when you announce what's for dinner.
I realize how amazing this sounds (😉), and I don't mean to gild the lily here, but let me tell you what else it is.
It's sweet kisses in the morning and snuggles before bed. It's hand drawn cards, tiny I love yous and messy baking together. It's huge smiles after school, sharing a bowl of popcorn during a movie, being the comforter when they're sick. It's being loved unconditionally, being seen as a perfect human, and cute bouncing ribbons and curls.
Yes, sometimes, our work goes unappreciated and in any other real world job, someone with a job like this would quit. Yet mothers stay. Because our hearts are swollen with love for our kids and the lily, no matter how gilded, is beautiful.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. To mine, who I don't get to see or talk to nearly as much as I would like, but who is the single best example of what a mom should be. To my sister who will be celebrating Mother's Day quarantined. To my sister-in-law, my grandmother, my mothers-in-law, aunts, cousins, and friends. They all have a special place in my life and deserve nothing but the best recognition this Sunday and every day.
I hope you are all pampered and spoiled all day long. I hope you get a break. I hope your meals are prepared for you. I hope your littles make you the sweetest cards and that you make memories that will last a lifetime.
Enjoy your day, moms. You deserve it.
xoxo,
Nicole
