A Note from Katy ~ Sisters

My sister, Amy, and I are seven years apart and we couldn't be more different. I'm an extrovert, she's an introvert. She's GREAT at directions and just today I asked her if she thought there was a way for me to improve my directional challenge because I always get lost. She's an AMAZING baker...I'm the one who ruins boxed brownies. She's neat and organized and I'm a hot mess. Because she's seven years older than me, it was kind of like growing up with two moms instead of a big sister.

This week, Amy received an award from the Anne Arundel County Board of Education and it happens to be her birthday month, so it got me thinking about how close we've become. She was always there for me when I was little. Helped me clean my room. Made my birthday cakes, babysat.

As we've got older, she's been there in all the big moments. She's helped me have difficult conversations. She's the one who's not afraid to tell me the things I don't want to hear, and the one I'll always forgive for saying them. Amy's the one I can laugh with, the one I can cry and whine to. She listens even when she doesn't want to do it. (Although she's probably often rolling her eyes at me on the other end of the phone).

So Amy: congratulations on your Volunteer of the Month Award from AACPS. Happy early birthday...it's a BIG milestone birthday, but I won't put you on blast and tell the world your age. 🤣Thank you for being the best big sister in the world. For guiding me through life since you were seven years-old. For being my forever BFF. Love you!

xoxo,

Katy
